MC Tha's Umbandafunk
MC Tha grew up in Cidade Tiradentes, East Zone of Sao Paulo, COHAB, known for containing the largest housing complex in Latin America. Tha has always been a listener of rap and forró, as her family is of Northeastern origin; however, it was in her teenage years that she started to listen to funk when the scene started in the capital of Sao Paulo.
In 2009, she started singing and releasing her songs.
MC Tha is a revelation in contemporary Brazilian music with 2 albums released and a few singles.
Her music connects traditional and contemporary at the same time, in her works MC Tha straddles the sacred and the profane. The artist presents a deep investigation and experience with Afro-Brazilian religions, mixing aesthetics and rhythms in an original present genuine way, through funk, drums and singing points.
With a fundamental base in funk, my guide is strong and strengthens the message of the connection between the rhythm and the Afro-religious beats, played in Candomblés, Umbandas, on the hills and the periphery (with emphasis on Congo de Ouro beat, Angolan rhythm), that resembles the vast Afro repertoire present in various popular expressions of resistance, such as Jongo.
