Multi-instrumentalist known as the ‘wind sculptor’
Carlos Malta, is a composer, orchestrator and educator from Rio de Janeiro. Malta is an artist who has a totally original and creative style, and throughout his four decades career, he has traveled to dozens of countries around the world, translating through his work, the soul of Brazilian music.
He was a soloist in Hermeto Pascoal's band and also has played in some of the biggest international music festivals in cities such as Montreal, Cannes, Hamburg, Paris, North Sea, Vancouver, Pori, and Copenhagen. He has also performed with Egberto Gismonti, Pat Metheny, Ernie Watts, Gil Evans, Marcus Miller, Snarky Puppy and Charlie Haden.
In 1994 he started the Carlos Malta & Pife Muderno a Brazilian Instrumental Folk Music band. Inspired by the traditional fife bands of the Northeast, Malta developed a new reading for the performance of these bands, creating a unique sound.
